SERVICE OVERVIEW

How long has it been since you last changed your wiper blades? If your wipers are performing well, they should smoothly clear water, snow, and slush from your windshield with no skipping, squeaking, chattering, or grabbing. If you notice these signs, or if a wiper is leaving streaks or bands of water, it may be time for new ones. Typically, wiper blades have a service life of 6 – 12 months, depending on wear and tear.

Wiper blade replacement is one of the most neglected parts of vehicle maintenance. Worn and neglected wiper blades can inadvertently cause damage to your windshield and lead to unnecessary repair work in the future if not replaced immediately. Poorly performing wiper blades can also cause unnecessary stress on the wiper motor which can shorten its service life.

Our advice: be proactive about changing your wiper blades! Wipers are “cheap insurance” against more expensive repairs. Plus, replacing your wiper blades regularly can give you greater visual clarity especially when driving in adverse weather conditions.

Often, car owners only replace the rubber part of the wiper blades with refills. However, we recommend changing the whole wiper blade. Here’s why:

 1) It is more convenient
Replacing refills can be a tedious experience as you have to find the proper match (the same length blades can come in slightly different widths and track types), and then you have to thread it carefully through the arm. We also recommend replacing all the wiper blades on your vehicle at the same time; if one has worn out, the other won’t be far behind.

2) Wear and tear affects the whole wiper blade, not just the rubber wiping element
The frame of the wiper blade as well as its connections also experience wear and tear over time. While merely replacing the refills seems like a cost-saving move, in the long run you will have to replace the arm of the wiper blade as well. It makes more sense to replace the whole wiper blade.

3) It looks better
The black finish on blade assemblies is cheap and eventually pits and scours off from abrasion and pollution.  Replacing the whole wiper blade will give a “like-new” appearance to the windshield of your car.
